Blue Dot Studio Opens in Brooklyn
Warm, High Ceiling Room Features Vintage NEVE Console

Brooklyn, NY - Longtime sound engineer Jonny Sheehan and noted drummer Tom Kaelin have opened a one of a kind recording studio in DUMBO Brooklyn at 70 Washington Street. The main engineer currently using the new Blue Dot Studio is noted multi-Platinum producer/engineer Dave Swanson who has worked with Blues Traveler, Public Enemy and many others. Swanson names it among his favorite recording spots in NYC.

The low key studio features three spaces. Most important of course is the high ceilinged main live room with fantastic light and views of lower Manhattan, as well as a vocal booth with wood panel frequency resonators. The studio has been designed and engineered for high end sonic performance. The high ceilings offer a drum sound that is rare to find in urban spaces. The control room features a vintage NEVE mixing console with highly regarded mic preamps, compressors and EQs that work together to create a warm tone. There is a Hi-Definition Pro Tools set up with the latest version of Pro Tools. The studio also has film soundtrack capabilities as they have the ability to mix in surround sound. The lounge/lobby area is outfitted with comfy couches and chairs and has a mellow eastern vibe.

Blue Dot Studio founder Jonny Sheehan has an extensive background in live and recorded music. For the last 10 years he worked as a sound engineer in both television and independent music. He has traveled around the country working on MTV and VH1 shows recording live sound. His credits include VH1's "Lift Ticket to Ride," MTV's "Winter Lodge," "Woodstock '99" and many more. He is also an accomplished musician who has played on the HORDE tour and around the country while in THE MICHAEL PARRISH BAND. Of opening Blue Dot Jonny says, "I always kept a home studio in my Brooklyn basement and once the NEVE console came into my possession I decided to take it to the next level and open a full service facility."

Blue Dot partner and designer Tom Kaelin a world class drummer who has played with Merle Saunders and the Rainforest Band, Rick Danko and Jorma Kaukenen. Tom has been a staple of the New York Jam band scene for more than a decade most notably as a member of THE HATTERS. Tom is also an accomplished carpenter who has built several recording studios in Upstate New York. Tom's well trained ear is responsible for Blue Dot Studio's sweet drum sound.

Since it's soft opening in July, Blue Dot has hosted Blues Traveler's John Popper, Widespread Panic's Dave Schools, world music star Roykey and DJ Logic. Due to the quality equipment, good vibes, proximity to Manhattan and super low hourly and lock out fees, Blue Dot Studio is sure to add to this list in the months to come.
